Overwhelmed. You feel overwhelmed. Normal day-to-day business operations are challenging enough, but now there is a software technology project hanging over your head. And you are not a developer. Everything seems to be moving at the speed of technology and, to be honest, you feel like Alice in Wonderland ... running as fast as you can just to stay in the same place.
You lack enough information about the whole technology thing to keep the whole thing under control. From idea to implementation there seems to be an ever-changing landscape with people coming and going ... going and coming ... if you could just get a 30,000 foot view of the whole process then you would have a chance to sort things out.
Information from the technical team is couched in jargon and gobbledy-gook; there never seem to be a straightforward answer to any question. If you just had a basic understanding of the software development process then you would have a fighting chance to succeed at even finishing the darn project.
Let's take you from the fog of ignorance - where you don't even know what you don't (yet) know - to at least have a good idea of where the holes in your knowledge are ... and what you can do to fill in the most important of them. From feeling overwhelmed, drowning, to a feeling of confident competence. From a feeling of being lost in the woods to seeing a clear path.
After multiple degrees in computer science and decades of experience developing and customizing software -- of leading software projects -- and teaching people from all walks of life how to succeed at developing software, Dr Will has distilled this high-level overview of software development to help you discover what you don't know, have a feel for the risk inherent in your project, and have an idea of what to do next ... or first.
By the end of this short mini-course you will have the "lay of the land." You will understand a bit of why software is so complex and difficult and have a map and a compass. You will have an idea of where you are and the basics of how to plot your course. You will know where there be dragons ...
This course is for you if:
- You are a non-technical SaaS founder who needs a quick overview of what you need to know about software development.
- You are a manager with responsibility for a software project who needs to know what to expect from a development effort.
- You are an owner/operator of a business having software developed or customized who needs to know where the landmines are.
